2003 Chevy Tahoe

Right at the end of 2009 my 03 Tahoe rolled over 100K miles.  I'm pretty proud of that, not too many people keep vehicles for very long anymore. I have had this one since around October of 02.  It's nothing special and is not heavily modified in anyway.  It is my daily driver and I get around 20 miles to the gallon in it which suites me just fine.

I do the normal maintenance to it but had not done anything special to it because it ran well.  It got a new a/c compressor in the summer because the old one was leaking too much.  Other than that it has really been a great truck.  I decided though at 100K miles, its probably worth a few parts.

I ordered up some AC Delco spark plugs, spark plug wires, and a Fuel filter and took a Saturday morning to install all of them.  I also got the oil changed, rotated the tires and put some fresh oil on the K&N air filter.  If you are interested in any more detail, read below.

The thing I did not take into account was the fact that with 100K miles and almost 8 years on the truck, nothing was going to come loose without a fight.  I started on the drivers side with the plugs and the wires and I'm glad I did as these were all very tough to get off.  Not much room to get my fingers on the plug wires and not a straight shot to get my wrench on the plug socket.  After much cussing and using a breakover bar for leverage I did manage to get all the old ones out and replaced.   Wires are easy since they go to coils right above each plug

When I got to the passenger side I realized the rear plug was pointed backwards toward the firewall and there was not much room for my hands to get in there.  (I'm not a small guy) After some contortion feats that should have been featured in a circus I did manage to yank the wire out and get the plug out and new one put in.  The last three were easy as pie and I am glad I left them for last.

Fuel Filter was also a challenge, under the truck, on the frame, by the drivers door, one end came un screwed without a hitch, the other took a lot of pulling and grunting on my part before it finally game loose.  New filter installed with no troubles at all.

Got the air filter pulled out, cleaned all the dirt and grime out of it and gave it a good oiling and put back in.

Sad thing is I cant really tell a difference driving it, but I guess I know its better, which is enough for me
