We are all supposed to work green these days right? Well does planting grass count? I know, its a stretch, but I'm going to run with it anyway.
We have this hill in our front yard and we have had issues with it for the last few years. We have tried a few different remedies and finally at the end of last year we decided we were going to have to dig it up and lay in new sod.
We started by marking out a perimeter of where we would need to work and used shovels, metal rakes and such to break the ground up as much as we could. Then I got in there with a tiller and tilled all the dirt up and we took out the Red Texas Clay that is what we live with every day. We expected to have to buy more topsoil and in the end there was actually some good topsoil there once it was broken up. After a few rounds with the hand tools and the tiller we had a nice loose base to put our sod in so off to the store we went.
Bought 30 squares of st augustine and a couple bags of peat moss. Also picked up bricks to put along the sidewalk to keep the rain from washing everything away. Came back and dug the trench and laid in the bricks. Dropped some fertilizer and one of the bags of peat moss in the dirt and leveled everything out. Laid out the grass and of course came up short so I had to go back to the store and buy 7 more squares of grass (did I mention it was raining off and on all day Saturday?)
Finally got all the squares placed and happy with them and then we used the other bag of peat moss to spread over the top of them to help hold in the nutrients and help the grass grow.
Hopefully this will grow in good and thick. I dont have a before pic (of course) but I have an after pic
