I was reading woodnet today and there is a post there about are we the last generation of woodworkers in home shops.

It talks a lot about how its not being taught in the schools anymore and Norm not being on TV. I have to say I agree with it. I think people are too quick to put their butt in front of the TV and not do something with their hands, But what i thought was interesting was this quote.
"I'm 32 and I can say that NONE of my friends know about woodworking or care to take part in it. When I talk about it, they look at me like I'm an alien. My only woodworking friend here is my neighbor across the street who's in his early 80s. That's why I hang out here on Woodnet!"
I have to say I can relate to this easily. I dont know anyone else who does woodworking as a hobby. I am also the only guy on my street to have a shop in his garage as opposed to over-priced vehicles. (yes, we are the white trash of the neighborhood when it comes to cars in the driveway) Not that I am a popular guy or anything but we do know a lot of people and its just weird that no one is into woodworking, or metal working, or hot rods, etc.
