The state of the world today

yes, I make a lot of comments about people and the world today, get over it.

so I am in the garage the other evening working on a project when my neighbor comes over and asks me for help.  Says he has some wood he has to cut not straight to put around the things that hold up the uhh thing.  Obviously not having a clue what he was talking about I asked him to show me.  As it turns out he has square wooden posts for his porch in the back yard and the trim boards around the brackets at the base of one of the posts had rotten.  He bought some wood but had no idea how to miter the corners.  He went to Home Depot and talked to a bunch of people and they told him anywhere from a table saw to miter saw to a hand saw.  I just kept on thinking they were probably originally cut with a circular saw by the original carpenters but in my mode of making sure I impress I took some measurements and grabbed his piece of wood and made the cuts on my Sliding Compound Miter Saw.  Took them back to make sure they fit and offered him the advice to paint all sides before installation to keep them from rotting again.

other interesting thing I noted was that to fill the gap in between the post and the old trim they old carpenters had use paint stir sticks broken off and glued into place.  Hmmmm, I guess if it works...
