Here is something neat I saw on a tool blog the other day, a circular saw, designed by a contractor, to do work flush up to the wall. Its interesting because the blade is not only exposed more than usual, its also larger to allow you to cut through (2) 2x4's.

I just watched the video on straightflushsaw.com; I need one like 20 years ago. Can't wait to get one in my hands. The special features and safety features are very well thought out, and I wouldn't feel that it would be any less safe than a chain saw, or undercut saw, and I would be happy to use it. I look forward to see what else these guys come up with...
