I have a Delta GR275 6" variable speed bench grinder (OH NO, not the GR275, oh you can never sharpen anything on that, how could you) yeah whatever
I have been using a piece of wood I cobbled together to sharpen my turning tools and it has been doing ok, basically I have been living with the problems. Now that my son has gotten heavy into turning, and turning acrylics at that, I realized I needed to get a better edge on those tools and doing that meant spending some money on a jig
so after some looking and reading and such I decided on a oneway jig. Looks cool and the description I read said it would fit any grinder so off the credit card went and a few days later it showed up.
I use the directions (crazy I know) and immediately figure out that I have a problem, The base of my grinder sticks under the wheels and is in the way of where the jig needs to go. After measuring and looking and thinking and measuring and thinking I finally realize I am going to have to either go buy a new grinder, or modify this one
if you know me, you know which one I picked...
I got out my trusty cutting wheel and made a slight modification to the old GR275. After that I was able to following the instructions and make a space plate to sit the 6" grinder higher and then a plate to mount everything to.
M and I ran a few chisels through it and they got a nice sharp edge on them. I hope that will make turning those acrylic pens a little easier on him and not have them chip so much
