Drag Racing, then and now

Way back when I was young and stupid, we would go to a drag racing track and watch the big boys run, at least the local big boys.  These were small rail cars and a lot of door slammers, no nitro cars or anything like that.

What was really cool was where we could sit.

Thats not a trick photo, we were sitting on the grass next to the starting line.

I mean we were right there....

or we coud be standing in the staging lanes...

Guess that all went by the wayside when the dinosaurs died off. people quit walking to school-uphill-both ways, and we stopped chiseling into stone tablets for school work.
