10 by 20 pledge

Here is a great interview with John Ratzenberger

This carpentry

John is part of the "Center for America" and is pushing a pledge for 10 million skilled jobs by 2020.

Center for America

This is nothing I have not written about before.  Its about the cancellation of vocation training to young people out there.  The push that everyone needs to have a job sitting at a computer all day and the fact that as a society we have no respect for tradesmen.  Did you know the average age of a skilled tradesmen in America is 55?  That number has been rising over the past 15 years.  What do you think is going to happen in the next 10?

IMHO the quality of a lot of work out there is going down the drain and part of that is the problem above.  No one wants to learn a trade, to be an apprentice to a master craftsman, and spend the time needed to learn what needs to be learn.  They go to school, they get out, and they want a job with all the pay and benefits and etc.  There is no respect for experience, everyone thinks they can learn everything they need to learn from Google.

Work ethic is non existant these days in adults, much less something we are putting into our children.  People raise their children to believe everything should come easy, no one understands that anything worth doing will take effort on your part.  Nothing worth doing should be easy.

AAARRRGGGHHHH
now I'm just frustrated
