Step one in becoming a gunsmith...

Well, not really, but I am learning a lot at this point.

So as I mentioned before, M's new 9422 doesnt shoot worth a damn.

Step 1 - clean the gun, CHECK,  wasnt terrible, but wasnt clean either.
Step 2 - work on the sights...  HMMM

so I did some digging and looking and work on the gun at home, decided I needed to check it out at the range and see if I was getting anywhere.  Trouble was it was crappy outside and probably wasnt going to get better as it was just that time of the year.  (cold, wet, did I mention cold)

Well, one day those weather type people said that it was going to be a beautiful day, and didnt know when we would have one again  (not that I believe those weather type people,  I think they look out the window and guess just like we do)  I took a shot at it anyway and put the gun and some tools in my truck.

Well as it happened, it was a nice day, sunny and warm

Took my lunch hour late in the day and went over to the range.  Got a space at the 25yd targets and got setup to shoot.

First shooting it was still high and wide.  Thought process is you adjust the rear sight in the direction you want the bullett to move.  so to move the bullet down you move the rear sight down.  Of course the adjustment on the sight was all the way down already, so it did take a little work, but I was able to get it adjusted through the non quick and easy ways.  After a good bit of time spent working on the height, I was able to get it pretty tight at 25yds.

The above pic is the 2nd Target I shot at.  Its progress for sure.  Went to work on the left to right movement and essentially came down to I did not have the right tools with me to push the sight over to get the bullet to move over.  Its a dovetail so you have to hit the sight over with a drift pin, and long and the short of it was I wasnt prepared.  I know, what can I say, I'm useless, I should give up my Binford Tool T-shirts as Tim would totally kick me out of the club.

The one thing I can say is the gun seems to be shooting constantly now.  I think if I can get the rear sight pushed over, things will be looking better.

More to come when we can ever have a decent looking day again, and I can show up to the range with the right tools...
