Memories are a funny thing. The things you remember, the things you forget.
I have a probably even more peculiar memory than most, I seem to only remember goofy facts that wont even win you the most esoteric version of trivial pursuit..
Trivial pursuit, its a board game.
board game, a game played without a computer.
it was what we all did before tablets and phones ruined our lives.
never mind, just push the I believe button on the part about "I have a peculiar memory"
one memory I have, which I am sure is completely inaccurate, is of me at a general store that belonged to a relative of mine.
(if you have been an avid follower of this blog you will remember me talking about this memory..
http://double-d-garage.blogspot.com/2011/09/antique-coke-machine.html )
the store looks something like this now
well, way back when I was a kid, 100 years ago, when dinosaurs roamed the earth and we all chipped out our homework on stone tablets, we were there.
i dont know why, we were just there.
I remember playing with the coke machine. The coke machine was one of those that held bottles by the neck, and you had to slide them around and get them over to a single point, so you could pay for it and slide it out. I remember standing there with the lid up, sliding drinks around, probably getting griped at by someone for standing there with the coke machine open playing with the drinks.
fact is, for some reason, I remember that.
yes, that is all the memory I have for that time,
I know, you expected so much more.
anyway, the point of all this...
yes, as a matter of fact, there is a point,
I have always wanted a slider drink machine.
a slider machine is what they called the machines of that time that you slid the bottles around on.
no problem right? Plenty of them around, go buy one.
and if I wasnt such a cheap bastard, I would have just ponied up the money, bought a nice newly restored one for the price of a perfectly good car, and moved on.
Problem is, It just isnt worth that much money to me.
and I'm cheap..
but I have been looking
fast forward to the other weekend, in between trips of hauling every piece of furniture that is downstairs in our house into the garage, which is a whole nuther story, that I am not sure I am going to tell, but I was resting my weak ass in one of the few chairs left in the house and SWMBO was surfing on her Ipad, when she handed it to me and said, what about this?
there, in a CL ad, was a Ideal 85 slider. White, 7 Up logo, and it had a water fountain on the side of it.
Now, before we get to the price, lets talk about a few other cool parts here. We already own a stand up drink machine, which is white, (RC Cola) and has a water fountain on it. Die hard readers of this blog would remember it, if there actually were any.
for the rest of the world, here is a pic
cool machine isnt it,
Yep, I like it. And I love the water fountain on the side of it. Very cool
so anyway, back to the story, on top of all that, the machine was on our way to dinner, which we had already planned for a number of reasons. (long story)
so since fate was telling us what to do. the LOML contacted the seller and we setup a meet.
The trailer was hooked up to the truck and off we went.
We looked at the machine, it worked, it looked good, and the final piece, the price was right. The man selling it was very nice, we pulled him away from the Tech/TCU game, he was rooting for tech (sorry that didnt work out for you, I didnt want to tell you then I didnt think Tech was going to pull it out. Just be happy it was closer than last year) Anyway, we paid him for it, he even helped us load it, and off we went. We found a good spot for dinner, had a good meal, and then headed home.
It is now resting right across from our stand up machine, and I finally have a slider, that I can play with without anyone griping at me. Well, I guess the LOML might gripe at me for leaving it open too long, but anyway, point is, after much time searching, this is something else that can be checked off the search list.
and of course, without pics, it didnt happen, so here are the required pics
yep, already got bottles in it

All things come to those who wait. We definitely waited for this one and it came to us, at the right time, in the right condition and at the right price. Definitely meant to be. deb
ReplyDeleteLooks great! How are the drinks from it, as good as you remember?
