So one of the issues with my soon to be 10 year old truck, is that it did not have a receiver on the back of it. I could have put a ball on the bumper and done that, but that just seems, well, un-cool...
so I ended up going to e-trailer and ordered a Curt class V hitch along with a connector to mount on the back bumper.
ordered it on a Sunday and on Wednesday I had the hitch in my hands.
Grabbed M to help me and we carried the beast out to the truck in the driveway. dropped the spare tire just to make access a little easier. Removed the 2 bumper bolts and we held the bracket in place and re-threaded those bolts back in. Then with it up against the frame rails I noticed my bracket was bent.
I couldnt get all the bolts in on my side. Must have been dropped by the freight company in transit (gasp!)
so we took it back off and I grabbed a spreader clamp and a torch. I got it to move some, but as we mounted it back on the truck, i realized it wasnt enough.
Over the next 15 minutes we tried a number of different options to try and spread the bracket to fit, to try and pull it to the frame, etc.
Finally, came up with one that worked. Used a couple of 2x6's as a cleat and used the jack out of the truck as a spreader. Was able to push it over just enough to get that last bolt in and tightened up.
Got the trailer connector mounted on and BOOM, all done
now, why am I putting a trailer hitch on my truck after 10 years of ownership?
Stay tuned next time for the answer to that question
