Nope, thats not Santa Claus

We have noticed that the trim boards on the chimney were rotting for a little while now, but have been putting off dealing with it, well we finally lost some large pieces of the trim in a big storm so we had to do something about it.

No, I did not end up doing the work, why? because the hospital bill of me falling off the roof would have been much more expensive than the bill of paying chimney guys to do it.

We knew ahead of time the old chimney cap was wrong because it did not cover the trim on the top, which is why it all rotted to begin with.  When it was all torn down we found out why it was wrong.  Apparently when the house was built the chimney had siding installed on it to match the house.  Before it was ever painted someone changed their mind and they put textured OSB and trim ON TOP OF WHAT WAS ALREADY THER and then painted that.

It never ceases to amaze me as to what we find that some builder did on a new house.

Anyway, here are a few pictures of the work in progress.  I will say the guy we found did an excellant job on the work, he cleaned up after himself, he was there when he said he was and completed the job as promised.  So far at least, I am impressed with the work they did.
