As you have seen, I have been having issues with our gas powered trimmer. Lets see in the past year I have replaced the carb, gas can, gas line, filters, plug, flywheel, and the off switch
I told the LOML, we need to start looking for something else, before this thing dies and leaves us stranded. I did not want to run to the store and buy some POS because we HAD too.
Well fast forward to Christmas, and people asked what they should get us, our answer was a Ace Hardware gift card, Why? Because Ace Hardware carries Stihl. Need i say more?
so fast forward again, we head by Ace Hardware, found the one I wanted and I ask one of the 2 employees standing there shooting the bull with help for Stihl gear, and they call someone on a radio...
I wait in the Stihl aisle.
A guy comes by and asks what I need, I show him the products I want. He goes and asks another guy where they are, and what he needs to do.
He comes back by the aisle 2 or 3 times, looking at the product and looking confused. Finally asked me if I would take the one that was on display. I told him no. He leaves again.
He comes by me 2 or 3 more times (mind you, during this whole time, there are 10 more people in the store standing there with their hand up their butt) Finally he tells me he found the motor I wanted, but cant find the trimmer head. I tell him I will accept the trimmer head from the display. We go back to the "service" counter. He then proceeds to try and process the sale.
The other guy, who is complaining to everyone about everything very loud, then starts telling him that is has to be registered, and it has to be started, and etc, and etc.
Then the other guy, starts asking the guy who is helping me, how to help the people he is helping try to rent a steam cleaner.
Finally, they decide that maybe they should switch, since obviously they knew more about hat each other was dealing with than what they were dealing with, or so we thought.
5 more minutes of griping and complaining and the guy tells me he cant help me. They have the pieces, but he doesnt know how to register the purchase on these new fangled computers and just cant help me. They would call me the next day (Sunday) and let me know when I could come back.
I.E. Its getting close to closing time and I want to go home and I dont want to have to work hard at work.
Needless to say, I was not happy at this point, and had it not been for gift cards for ace hardware, I would not have gone back.
Which really sucks, because I like Ace Hardware. I would rather go there than go to the BORG or the Blue Box, but obviously this Aisle is just there for looks, they dont want you to actually buy anything...
So the next day, they are Open 10-5... We had things to do that day, but I waited for a call.
M had Practice 1-3, and the field is down the street from the Ace, so after dropping him at practice, I drove over to Ace, so its about 1:30...
I walk in and go back to the service counter, where the guys were helping me the day before..
Standing there at the counter is a guy named Dave.
I explained to Dave my situation, the story, etc. He tells me that he knows all that and he was going to call me in a couple of hours (hmmm, call me at 3:30 when they close at 5)
BUT,
he does end up getting all my information to tell the Germans who bought their beautiful tool, he took all the gift cards with no issues and he filled it, started it, and showed me what he thought he should (not that he needed to, I have to say, but it as nice) All in all, he did a great job of customer service.
So here we go, my Stihl KM 90R Kombi drive motor with a straight trimmer head on it
Point is, if you are canoeing through the desert and you have four flat tires, be sure and ask Dave about buying Stihl products at Ace Hardware. If Dave isnt there, Run away, fast, very fast!
Once we get it burned in and used, I will come back with some more info and thoughts.
Right now, I can tell you one thing I like about it, its MUCH longer than the old one
