I feel like I have been playing a game of Where's Waldo lately with the Allin place, trying to find things.
First, it was the water shut off, because the water was, well, shut off. There are shut offs on the inside of the hanger that I found fairly easily, but there was no water pressure behind them. So I needed to find the water meter and shut off where it comes from the city (yep, city water... I know, we're big time now)
Looked around the hanger, where the water comes in, etc. Even used my Stihl string trimmer to cut away a lot of the tall grass to look. Wasnt there. Moved to out by the street, yet again, trimming away tall grass, walking up and down the street, nothing
So I moved to looking around the property, never found it
Asked the Realtor what info they had on it, and they told me where to look. I looked there, nothing.
Finally with the help of the agent, it was found. Out at the end of the runway, by the highway.
Of course, at the end of the runway, where else would a water shut off be, How silly of me not to think of looking there....
WOW, really? UMM, never would have thought to look there!
NEXT!
well, next was the septic system, We needed to try and figure out what kind of condition the septic system was in, and determine what costs might be involved in dealing with that.
(funny thing, M says to me, "whats a septic system" My answer to him, "Its where your poo goes when you flush the toilet" He liked that answer. Anytime you can talk about poo with a 10 year old boy it makes them happy)
so we found a company who would come out and inspect the septic. The guy shows up, we tell him again to remind him what the deal is, how long it has been sitting, etc. He then asks the 10 million dollar question,
you know what questions that is right, I mean, you have been paying attention up to this point?
He asks "do you know where it is?"
No
of course we dont
we dont know where anything is and neither does anyone else
well, as the LOML put it, there is a guy who knows exactly where it is, but the only way we are going to ask him is through a seance.
So we start our game of where's waldo
We turn the water on in a couple of sinks so we can push water into it, we find a clean out and can see water moving towards the septic, but it doesnt make sense the direction its going. He goes and get a shovel and starts digging in a few places. We continue to walk around and look
He finally starts using the plant growth as a map and works out where the leaching field is. Working back from there we can tell the general area the tank is, we think. Its an old tank without any kind of access hole in it, so there isnt anything sticking up from it.
so we have a conversation with him about worst case scenario, what his thoughts are, what we need to do from here, etc.
During the 4 trips out there that all of the above fun happened, I also managed to check out all the electrical, plumbing, HVAC, appliances, building, roof, doors, windows, foundation, etc.
I have found a few things we will have to deal with, nothing that scares me away
so as of this writing, we are moving forward with the deal!
More to come
