If you're gonna be dumb....

I have said this before,  If you're gonna be dumb, you gotta be tough.

Let me tell you I should be the toughest SOB on the planet.....  I am most certain I am the dumbest some days.

let me tell you about one of my latest, dumb things.

so the truck,  you know, 1969 C10 truck, totally in pieces at my shop.....

at the last update you saw, was working on the rear suspension, next thing up, rear end.

Needed to take the spindles out to remove all the drum brake components.....

Take the cover off, drain all the fluid.

remove the bold that holds the pin in  (thought all was good)

try to remove pin, it should slide out

It "should" slide out
.................

did I mention it should slide out?

It doesnt.

Hammer it awhile, nothing.

did I mention it should just slide right out?

look again and realize all the bolt did not come out.  Bolt broke off inside the pin.

Hammer pin back the other way, remove rest of the bolt.  But now realize the problem is the pin has twisted after the bolt broke.

Working on hammering the pin.  Using a socket extension on the pin and a large ball peen hammer....

Have I ever told you stories of when i was growing up we had a farm?

many of the implements on the farm belonged to grandparents and such.

I remember stories of axe heads flying off wooden handles...

ha ha, so funny......

well, back to present day.  Came down with the hammer, head flew off the handle as I came down. Head landed on my left index finger holding the socket extension which was up against the differential housing,  (essentially smashing my finger between the hammer and the housing) bounced off and went flying and of course with the large amount of pain entering my finger I let go of the handle.

This is the part where I show you a picture of my finger.

Nope, you wont see that pic.

trust me, you dont want to see it.

I can tell you I didnt break it  (been there, know how much that hurts.  This hurt a lot, not like that)

above pic you can see the diff, and over by the engine hoist you can see the head and handle of the hammer

close pic so you can see the hammer....

So needless to say I got nothing else accomplished that day, and it was difficult using my left hand to grab anything for awhile.

Probably going to have to torch the pin out of the diff housing to get the spindles out.

Oh joy...

Cherry Pie!
